Hi, Drea here! I'm a functional health and fitness coach, my passion for helping others stems from a deep belief in transforming your health from within. I have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact that a balanced and functional approach to health can have on people's lives. Confronted with numerous diseases in my nursing career, I recognized the limitations of quick fixes and Band-Aid solutions. This realization fueled my determination to explore a more comprehensive approach to healing—one that addresses the root causes and fosters true well-being from the inside out. It was this conviction that led me to embark on my journey in functional health, seeking to empower individuals with sustainable strategies for lasting health and vitality.
My journey into coaching was motivated by a desire to empower individuals to not only achieve their fitness goals but also to enhance their overall quality of life. I thrive on guiding others towards sustainable habits, emphasizing not just physical strength, but also mental resilience and nutritional balance.
During my upbringing, my dietary habits and lifestyle weren't the healthiest. In fact, I was made fun of in high school for my appearance and weight. After serving in the Air Force for almost 9 years I felt fit and active. Being competitive and striving for a better me, I decided to compete in a bikini bodybuilding competition and this is where my love for fitness started. Unfortunately, my extreme dedication had adverse consequences. I became obsessed with consistently tracking my food, withdrew socially, and, despite an outward appearance of well-being, my internal state was yelling for HELP.
Unaware of the consequences, I normalized the absence of a menstrual cycle, attributing it to both long-term birth control use and prolonged calorie deficits. It wasn't until I sought medical advice, requesting a hormone panel in my twenties, that I encountered resistance and felt shame for wanting to prioritize my health. REALLY! The turning point came after becoming a mother when a GYN finally ordered a hormonal panel, only to declare everything was "normal" and it was probably attributed to stress, even offering antidepressant medication and birth control—YIKES!! This really prompted me to reevaluate my health and take matters into my own hands with a holistic approach to health.
My turning point emerged with the profound shift that accompanied motherhood, triggering a deep reassessment of my health and lifestyle. The low point was when I recognized the imbalance between my external fitness and internal health, exacerbated by dismissive encounters with healthcare professionals offering little understanding, masking symptoms, and misguided solutions.
Fueled by a burning desire to regain control of my well-being, the pivotal moment in my journey occurred when I transitioned from restrictive dieting to a thriving state, embracing a natural balance for my hormones. Recognizing the toll that extreme dietary habits were taking on my body and well-being, I decided to shift my focus towards a more holistic and nourishing approach. This turning point marked the beginning of a transformative chapter where I learned to honor my body's signals, prioritize sustainable nutrition, and foster hormonal balance through mindful lifestyle choices, and a commitment to holistic well-being.
